FC Magdeburg 1-1 West Ham: Hammers denied by late equaliser

West Ham United ended their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw against 1. FC Magdeburg after conceding a late equaliser in Germany.

Maximilian Kilman opened the scoring in the West Ham Magdeburg match before Falko Michel struck in the final minute.

Nuno Espirito Santo named a strong side at the Avnet Arena, with Jarrod Bowen captaining the Hammers and Taty Castellanos leading the attack. West Ham gradually took control after a lively start from their hosts and created several early opportunities.

Bowen fired across goal before Castellanos was denied by Dominik Reimann. The breakthrough eventually arrived after 21 minutes when Lewis Orford’s corner reached Kilman, who lost his marker and volleyed inside the near post.

West Ham Magdeburg match ends with late frustration

West Ham continued to threaten after going ahead, but Magdeburg improved as the game progressed. The hosts then went close twice immediately after half-time, with Baris Atik hitting the post before Alexander Nollenberger’s deflected cross struck the woodwork.

Magdeburg eventually found their equaliser in the closing stages. Michel collected Pierre Nadjombe’s pass and fired a low effort into the bottom corner to make it 1-1.

The official West Ham match report confirmed the draw brought the club’s 2026/27 pre-season schedule to an end.

Nuno will now turn his attention towards competitive football. West Ham begin their Championship campaign away at Burnley on 16 August as they look to make an immediate push for promotion.
