West Ham United are monitoring Middlesbrough wing-back Isaiah Jones, who established himself as a first-team regular at the Championship club under former boss Chris Wilder and has kicked on ever since.
What’s the word?
Transfer expert Dean Jones has informed GIVEMESPORT of his understanding on the matter, with the Irons mentioned alongside Crystal Palace as potential suitors for the 23-year-old in a recent report from Football League World.
The journalist does concede that Jones has not been able to reach the heights of last season but still believes he would be “a nice addition” for West Ham if they sign him in the January transfer window.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the reporter said: “It would be a nice addition. Palace and West Ham have been following Isaiah Jones most closely. He hasn’t been quite at his best recently.”
He’s wowed a Premier League legend
In Middlesbrough’s emphatic 4-1 victory over a Wayne Rooney-managed Derby County last February, Jones completely stole the show and bullied the Rams on the day.
Two assists and an integral part in Lee Buchanan’s own goal opener was enough to put the game to bed, with the wing-back earning glowing plaudits and the man of the match award for his efforts.
Scorer of 208 Premier League goals, top-flight legend Rooney was wowed by Jones’ efforts that day, saying: “He’s a very good player. The lad has a bright future ahead of him and it was because of Jones that we felt we had to set up differently.
“We knew he’s very aggressive going forward and thought we could utilise the space behind but obviously that didn’t happen.“
Jones is a player who can quite simply be game-changing at his best, with 15 goal contributions in the Championship since the start of 2020/21.
With five of those coming so far this season, there is a lot of untapped potential for David Moyes to possibly unlock if West Ham can lure the 23-year-old from Teesside to east London.
