West Ham United will finally reap the rewards of £30million summer acquisition Nayef Aguerd.
That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke who has informed GIVEMESPORT of the “huge boost” that David Moyes will receive when the Moroccan makes his long-awaited debut for the side.
The journalist believes that Aguerd’s return to contention will come as a big advantage to the side in the run-in ahead of the World Cup.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, O’Rourke said:
“It’d be a huge boost. Obviously, West Ham spent big on Aguerd in the summer and they’ve not seen him play for the club yet, after picking up that ankle injury in pre-season.
“Getting him back in now would be a big boost for West Ham, especially in their current situation and where they have been finding themselves pretty close to the relegation zone.
“David Moyes will be hoping to have his best players available, so he can put out his best team. That will hopefully help West Ham to start picking up results and they can go on a run.”
A big boost
Having been signed in the previous transfer window for a respectable fee as Moyes’ first piece of summer business, Aguerd’s arrival was already highly anticipated.
The 26-year-old arrived with a solid reputation as a left-footed, ball-playing central defender and he can match up to that description in the Premier League.
Having averaged a total of 64.2 accurate passes and 5.7 accurate long balls per 90 last season at Rennes, Aguerd is capable of kickstarting attacks from deep.
Though he is equally as astute out of possession, demonstrating this last term when he topped the charts for two of the Ligue 1 side’s defensive metrics, averaging 4.1 clearances and 0.5 blocks per 90.
His return will be big for Moyes, who may look to use the “enthusiastic” Morocco international as a trigger in the build-up in a similar way to how Liverpool use Virgil van Dijk and Newcastle use Fabian Schar.
