Journalist Paul Brown feels that David Moyes should be calling up in-form players like Said Benrahma to turn West Ham’s fortunes around.
Benrahma has been in and out of the Hammers side since the start of the campaign as Moyes works to find out his best attack.
The 17-cap Algeria international has started three of the club’s first six league games but is yet to be involved in a goal with Pablo Fornals, Manuel Lanzini and new signing Lucas Paqueta also challenging for minutes, while in Europe he has shown his value by registering a goal and assist in qualifying.
Benrahma was the subject of interest from Nottingham Forest this summer, with it reported that the Irons were willing to listen to offers.
Now, when speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown has said: “Benrahma did start the season like he was going to tear it up pretty quickly.
“So, it is a little surprising that he hasn’t played more because I think the manager should be relying on players who look like they’re in form and at the top of their game.”
Ever since his £20m move from Brentford back in 2020, Benrahma has been rotated heavily by Moyes but has shown glimpses of his best.
Nevertheless last season, the forward ranked third for goals as well as assists at the club in the Premier League being involved in 14 scores in total.
BBC broadcaster John Bennett once labelled the 27-year-old ‘sensational’ and by looking at the underlying numbers you could make a fine argument to suggest that Benraham should be handed a regular starting berth.
This season he sits second in the side for key passes per game with 1.5, first for successful dribbles, and third for shots (1.5) per 90 minutes (SofaScore), highlighting his cut and thrust style in the final third.
