West Ham reportedly made a ‘bulging’ offer to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez towards the end of the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old emerged as a late target for the Hammers as David Moyes attempted to bolster the attacking ranks.

However, the attempts fell flat and Moyes was left with Michail Antonio as the only recognised senior frontman.
According to a report from Record, West Ham were in serious contention to land Nunez.
The report claims that the Irons made an attempt to get the deal over the line for the eight-cap Uruguay ace in the ‘last breath of January’.
This season Nunez – once tipped to become the ‘best in the world’ – has scored 25 times and provided two assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Valued at £28.8million and under contract in Portugal until 2025 (Transfermarkt), the Uruguayan is now wanted by Liverpool and Arsenal.
Signing a frontman is imperative in the summer and at around the €60million (£50million) mooted valuation, the 59 career goal ace would be a superb capture.
Possessing a range of key and impressive attributes required to be an elite level striker in the Premier League, Nunez should be high on the list of targets at the London Stadium.
