Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan believes just two arrivals would make for the ‘ideal’ transfer window for West Ham.
The Hammers are expected to delve into the market for at least one centre-back following injuries suffered by Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma in recent weeks.
Irons’ boss David Moyes may also be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements in order to support Michail Antonio.
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan suggested two signings could see West Ham enjoy a successful window.
They’re light in that area since letting go of Sebastian Haller and they never brought in another striker. They need to go down that route, for sure. A centre-back and a centre-forward in January would be the ideal window. Moyes can’t keep playing Bowen up there as a false nine, he needs a natural option. Someone like Antonio who can take the pressure off him by coming in – running into those channels, creating the space, and scoring goals. Centre-back and centre-forward is the only two positions where I would really expect West Ham to do any business in January.
The 46-year-old went on to say that the Irons’ squad is ‘very well-stocked’ across most departments.
Linked with FC Basel frontman Arthur Cabral and Sparta Prague youngster Adam Hlozek in recent days, Whelan claimed either would be a ‘great’ addition to the ranks as the London Stadium.

Spot on.
Whilst a wave of new signings wouldn’t be unwelcome, realistically Moyes is unlikely to oversee a busy January and instead will focus on specific areas of interest.
Despite a previous reluctance to upset the applecart and sign a new striker, Antonio cannot be relied upon to last the duration of this season in all four competitions.
