Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has approved a move by West Ham for FC Basel ace Arthur Cabral.
The 23-year-old has been linked with the Hammers in recent weeks and is enjoying a stellar season in the Swiss top-flight.
Already earning international recognition owing to his superb form, Cabral is also being courted by clubs from across Europe.
Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell has been suggesting that the Brazilian could be the man to supplement David Moyes’ squad.
They’ll have to be clever with Antonio, and Cabral could be that answer. He’s so physical, so all-action, strong, aggressive, and quick. But if he gets injured, they are seriously going to miss him. Getting someone else in who can take the strain off Antonio if you wanted to rest or rotate him at times, oh my, that would be a really shrewd move for David Moyes in January.
So far this season Cabral has amassed a sensational 27 goals in 28 appearances – including adding a further eight assists.
By contrast, Michail Antonio has netted seven times and provided five assists in 17 outings for the Irons.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
As the Hammers head into the new year with Europa League, Premier League, FA Cup and possible Carabao Cup glory still very much on the agenda, Moyes must be looking at the January window as an opportunity.
Despite enjoying a relatively problem-free start to the campaign, Antonio’s chequered injury record remains a concern and Cabral is a man ready-made to support.
Valued at £13.5million and under contract until 2023 in Switzerland (Transfermarkt), West Ham would be landing an in-form frontman at a bargain price for anything close to the mooted £17million fee.
