West Ham first-team coach Stuart Pearce has been discussing the summer business at the London Stadium.
After a quiet start to the window, the Hammers were able to add four senior players to David Moyes‘ squad – two of which were signed on deadline day.
Ultimately, the Irons were able to complete the signings of Alex Kral, Nikola Vlasic, Kurt Zouma and Alphonse Areola
Speaking to talkSPORT (Thursday, September 2 09:15am), where Pearce moonlights as a pundit, the 59-year-old admitted the club had worked tirelessly to get their targets.
To be fair, it’s not been an easy window. Dave’s [Moyes] worked really, really hard at trying to get the right players in and a little bit of it is that we’re victims of our own semi-success. The standard of players has to be good enough that we see them for our first team. We don’t want to sign squad players so it’s taken a while to get a few over the line. We’re pleased with the players we’ve brought in, four players including Areola. [They are] all of the right age who have got improvement in front of us so we just hope they’re going to give the squad a lift.
Following a successful 2021/22 campaign which saw the Irons finish sixth and qualify for the Europa League, there was a need for additions to cope with the extra demand.

There was certainly desperation for new faces at certain points during the window, one that clearly wasn’t shared from those in positions of power at the club.
Pearce and co were right to wait for the ideal players, albeit easy to say that in hindsight.
Now the squad and staff can focus on the matters at hand and get West Ham challenging in the upper echelons once again.
