Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has urged West Ham to make a deadline day move for Divock Origi.
This comes as the out of favour Liverpool striker reportedly seeks to find regular game time away from Anfield before the end of the summer window.
Credited with an interest in the 26-year-old previously, David Moyes still remains without an adequate recognised centre-forward to support Michail Antonio.
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan suggested that the Hammers should make a move for the Belgian international.
I don’t think he’s a risk. I think he’s only a risk if the manager doesn’t want the player. That then makes everything uncomfortable. Moyes won’t want a player he doesn’t need. There are better ways to get things that you want. He is a brilliant player on his day, he can play anywhere across the front three. He’s and handful and he knows where the goal is, he’s also very good at holding up the play and bringing in other players. He’s a bit like Antonio. A player who we’ve seen do well in spurts, he needs to get 90 minutes every week. Origi could turn out to be an absolute bargain for the club if he gets that game time.
So far this season Origi has watched on from the bench on the opening day before being left out of the last two Premier League matchday squads.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Overall, Origi would appear to have fallen short of the level required at Liverpool and has found game time hard to come by at times.
That’s not to say there isn’t quality within the 29 times capped Belgium man, quality the forward has shown on the biggest possible stage previously.
Given the levels of achievement and role in Jurgen Klopp’s side prior to this season, West Ham could certainly do much worse than Origi as a backup to Antonio.
