New owners are not always going to be better, claims former Premier League and West Ham midfielder Rob Lee.

Following the breaking news that West Ham United might potentially have new investors a few months ago, supporters across the fan base have expelled excitement towards what could possibly come to their club.

PAI Capital have heavily expressed their interest in becoming the new owners of the East London club, with West Ham legends like Tony Cottee, Anton Ferdinand and Rio Ferdinand all backing the potential takeover bid.

Fans have increasingly grown frustrated with current co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold over the years. A lack of investment in the transfer market and within the entire club has left fans reeling knowing how much potential West Ham has.

The fan base have longed for new owners for a few years now, and after witnessing the successes of the team under David Moyes now, more than ever, seems like a great time for the current owners to pass on the torch.

However, former Hammer Rob Lee warns that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

“You hope you get one [owners] that A; has got a lot of money and B; is prepared to spend that money as well,” he said.

“You have to get someone who actually gets the area, gets the people and who are putting the money in for a reason. Not just paying in because they want the best players but actually playing into the local community and I think that’s what most fans see and what most fans want, but there are owners who are not quite as good.”

A bid of £400million was reportedly turned down by the Hammers last month.
