West Ham are currently riding the crest of a wave following a 4-1 victory over recent top-four contenders Leicester City on Monday night.
The win in front of a packed London Stadium crowd took the Hammers to the top of the Premier League after two games having scored eight goals in two weeks.
This remarkable early season form backs up a sixth-place finish in 2020/21 when David Moyes’ side threatened to break into the top four for much of the campaign.
However, with Europa League football on the horizon to run alongside a packed domestic schedule, there is concern that more needs to be done in order to ensure Moyes has a squad fit to cope with the rigours ahead.
As the transfer window enters its final week, so far the Irons have only managed to sign goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on a season-long loan deal from Paris Saint-Germain.
TalkSPORT host Jim White had some interesting revelations for the Hammers faithful at the start of his show, as cited on Twitter by Follow @TalkinWestHam.

White said: “This is where West Ham are at right now. Between £40-45 million is available to spend between now and the end of the transfer window. They did try for Tammy Abraham – he was too expensive. A fee of £35million but a small matter of £160,000 per week. What about Kurt Zouma? They have been talking, a deal is in place between the two clubs of around £30million but the personal terms and wage is a stumbling block. There is a plan B for a defender and everything is set for that to happen.”

Few would’ve seen that coming.
Whilst all matters West Ham on-field are currently at a 20-year high, there is no doubt some animosity remains elsewhere at the club between fans and hierarchy.
The fact remains squad additions are needed if Moyes is going to replicate or surpass last seasons exploits – with a defender and an additional striker as a bare minimum.
As things stand, Kurt Zouma and Gaetan Laborde are the two most prominently linked players – although the likes of Nat Phillips and Nayef Aguerd could be the aforementioned ‘plan B’.
If White is correct in his assurances, Hammers fans can relish a busy final week of the transfer window.
