Virals: West Ham ‘closing in’ on Alphonse Areola loan signing

West Ham are believed to be ‘closing in’ on the loan signing of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola

The Frenchman is expected to arrive on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy at the conclusion as both clubs continue to discuss the finer details.

A World Cup winner with France in 2018, the 28-year-old is thought to be ‘keen’ on a return to London after spending last season at Fulham.

This latest update comes from the Evening Standard, as cited by WHUNewz on Twitter.

Despite suffering relegation across London, Areola impressed with a string of stellar performances – earning an average Sofascore rating of 6.94 in 36 Premier League outings.

Capped on three occasions by France at senior level, the 6’3 stopper has come through the ranks for the Parisian club and made 107 appearances for the European financial powerhouse

Signing a goalkeeper has seemed high on the agenda all along for David Moyes this summer.

Whilst both Lukasz Fabianski and Darren Randolph are well into their thirties, neither has shown signs of a dramatic decline in terms of performance.

In terms of a longer-term solution, Areola could well be the answer, however, it will be an interesting battle for the number one shirt this upcoming campaign.
