West Ham are believed to have made an offer for Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic.
The 29-year-old Serbian international became available on a free transfer today (June 30) after a contract with the Serie A club expired.
Therefore, the Hammers, along with Premier League rivals Crystal Palace as well as La Liga sides Real Betis and Sevilla are thought to have wasted little time in making their interest known.
This is according to Corriere Dello Sport journalist Antonio Giordano, as quoted via Area Napoli and as cited by WHUNewz – West Ham News on Twitter.

Maksimovic, once hailed as ‘very important player’ by Ex-Torino Boss Giampiero Ventura, has been a long-time target of the Irons and this summer could finally see the deal become a reality.
During 2020/21, the 25-cap Serbia ace made 27 appearances across all competitions – earning a Sofascore rating of 6.79 in 17 Serie A outings.

Valued at £9million (Transfermarkt), signing the centre-back for nothing would be a true bargain.
An experienced operator with vast European experience – including in the Europa League – the Serbian has been a consistent performer in Italy.
Should West Ham indeed win the battle, David Moyes may consider the defensive pursuit complete and turn attentions to a striker – a search that would be enhanced with the money saved in the budget.
