Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has hailed the seemingly imminent decision to reward David Moyes with a new contract at West Ham.
After much conjecture over the Scot’s future at the London Stadium, Moyes recently confirmed talks over a new deal are ‘well down the line’.
Fresh from guiding the Hammers to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, a report from The Telegraph has claimed that the 58-year-old will sign a new three-year contract in east London.
In an interview with Football Insider, Whelan was delighted to see Moyes preparing to extend a successful stay.
You have to get your foundations in place. Keeping them solid is important to any football club. The players will love the fact the manager’s saying. It seems they’ve got the right blend there of player, manager and coaching staff. He’s getting the best out of the players and they seem to be enjoying the football. I’m sure the fans are extremely happy with what he’s done since he came into the club. The players he has brought into the club, what he is getting out of them, the style of play, you can’t really complain.
Whelan went on to describe the decision as ‘brilliant news’ for the Irons as Moyes and his coaching staff begin to plan for life in Europe next season.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Tying Moyes down long-term is arguably as important as any business the Hammers will do this summer.
The Scotsman has transformed the fortunes at West Ham since returning for a second spell in charge and richly deserves a long-term stay.
Moyes won’t be resting on any laurels, however, knowing full well a huge summer of transfer activity is required if his side are going to compete with the additional workload.
