Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham will harbour ambitions beyond a move to West Ham.
This comes as reports claim the 23-year-old could look for a way out of Stamford Bridge this summer having fallen down the pecking order under new manager Thomas Tuchel.
After the Daily Star and reputable Irons insider ExWHUemployee have claimed Abraham is among David Moyes’ prime striker targets this summer – a £40m fee has since been mooted.
However, Jordan, who owned Palace between 2000-2010, told talkSPORT that the six-cap England man will be looking for a higher calibre move.
Tammy Abraham can operate at that (top) level if he’s given the opportunity to do so. That opportunity is not going to come at Chelsea. So it now becomes about the economics of how this boy goes out to the right club for him. I don’t think, with due respect, it’ll be West Ham because he’ll have different aspirations. I could see him at a club like Barcelona or a club in Italy or one of the top six in this country.
Despite falling out of favour in west London, Abraham remains the top scorer at Chelsea this season with 12 goals in 31 appearances in total.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Given the financial climate gripping football currently, much of this summers activity may boil down to where the interested parties arise.
Were the Hammers to show genuine interest, Abraham may not be awash with the offers conducive to a normal market, meaning West Ham could find themselves as frontrunners.
One factor that would certainly stand the Irons in good stead would be obtaining Champions League football for next term – especially were it to be at the expense of Chelsea.
