Former West Ham winger Trevor Sinclair has urged his previous employers to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham this summer.
David Moyes will be desperate to sign at least one frontman ahead of next season, having allowed Sebastien Haller to leave the London Stadium in January.
That decision left the Scot with only an injury-stricken Michail Antonio as a senior recognised striker at his disposal – something that has come back to bite the Hammers as the 30-year-old currently sits out with a hamstring issue.
Reports have suggested Abraham could be made available for around £40m having fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge, a move Sinclair told talkSPORT would make an abundance of sense.
Abraham would be a great match for West Ham. It’s what they want, it’s what they need with [Michail] Antonio’s injuries. He tends to pick up quite a lot of muscular because he is an absolute unit. The West Ham fans would love Abraham. He’s got everything. He’s obviously a talented player. I’m a big fan of his. I just want to see him playing football. If he’s not developing and continuing to improve as a player, he’s standing still and that’s not great for a young player.
Despite being exiled in west London, Abraham remains Chelsea’s top goalscorer this term with 12 goals in 31 matches across all competitions.
The 23-year-old, who was described as ‘Didier Drogba-esque’ by another former Iron, Rio Ferdinand, has earned an average Sofascore rating of 6.80 in the Premier League this season.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Signing Abraham would be a major coup for the Hammers, both for prospect purposes, current squad purposes and to sign an asset from a major rival.
West Ham are currently in direct competition with Chelsea – a fact Moyes and co will hope is a continuing trend.
Landing the six-cap England man would stand the Irons in very good stead for next season at least, although the £40m mooted fee would present difficulties given the financial climate.
