West Ham have reportedly rejected the chance to re-sign Marko Arnautovic and Hammers fans have reacted in their droves.
The Austrian, who has spent the last 18 months in China playing for Shanghai SIPG since leaving east London, was offered back to the club but the notion has been declined, with the player’s astronomical wages the major stumbling block – publicly, at least.
Now 31, Arnautovic scored seven times in 13 Chinese Super League games during the 2020 campaign, amassing 17 goals in 34 outings overall.
Despite the need for additional strikers within David Moyes’ squad, it’s fair to say that many of the Irons faithful were less than impressed with the possibility of the previously wantaway Austrian making a return to the club.
We’ve rounded up the pick of the animosity and relief from Hammers fans on Twitter as the deal seems to hit the rocks, with one going as far as to label Arnautovic “toxic” given the nature of his 2019 exit from the club…
