West Ham were reportedly on the brink of clinching a deal for Danish centre-back Frederik Alves back in November but nothing has yet been confirmed by the club.
With rumours of the 21-year-old undergoing a medical in east London, and with his club Silkeborg all but confirming the departure, it seemed that an official confirmation was a mere formality.
However, nothing came to fruition and now a Premier League rule change when signing players from Europe comes into force from January 1st, leading to doubts as to whether the deal will even go ahead. Nonetheless, this week Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet have stated the central defender is still ‘expected’ to move to the London Stadium.
The deal to make Denmark under-21 international Alves a Hammer is believed to be worth around £1.2m and, according to the report, must be agreed prior to the new ruling coming into force in order for it to go ahead.
Mysteriously, whilst all the confusion over his future reigns supreme, the defender hasn’t appeared for his current club for a number of weeks. Having not played since November 1st, the imposing Alves (1.95m tall) remains on eight NordicBet LIGA appearances for the season.

Moyes is clearly looking to bolster his defensive options despite being reasonably well-stocked in that department.
Clearly one of the future, Alves may have to wait for his opportunity to shine in east London, especially given the strong start made by the West Ham backline.
