Football Insider have revealed that West Ham manager David Moyes was left frustrated when Leicester City beat them to the summer signing of centre-back Wesley Fofana.
The Hammers were believed to be a mainstay in the race to land the 19-year-old from Saint-Ettienne during the summer transfer window before ultimately losing out to Brendan Rodgers’ side, who clinched a deal for the teenager.
Football Insider claimed that Moyes has been impressed by Fofana since he arrived in the Premier League – and rightly so as, despite his fledgling years, Fofana has taken to life in England exceptionally.
His role at the heart of the Foxes’ defence has helped them to top of the table going into the international break; and whilst Moyes’ side have also made a solid start, the Scot may be left dreaming of what might have been.
Failing to land Fofana and James Tarkowski earlier in the window lead to Moyes scrambling around in the final throws of the widow somewhat before ultimately signing Craig Dawson on a season-long loan from Watford.

Given the impressive start Fofana has made for Leicester, it’s easy to understand why Moyes may be left more than a little frustrated, especially given his own failings in bringing in a permanent option at centre-back.
However, the Irons may be on the verge of landing another young defender, with the deal to sign Frederik Alves edging closer towards completion, albeit with some complications.
Although the Denmark-based youngster may come from a slightly different standard than Ligue 1, what’s done is done and Moyes may be best served to let missed opportunities be forgotten, no matter how great they may seem.
