West Ham insider ExWHUemployee has claimed that the club’s interest in Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic is genuine while speaking on the West Ham Way podcast on Wednesday.
He also suggested that any deal to sign the Serbian is not close as things seemingly stand.
The 22-year-old striker was linked with a move to east London by The Mirror (via Hammers News) recently, with many West Ham fans excited by the prospect of luring a player from the Spanish giants.
The Serbian international joined Los Blancos from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019 for around £52.4m, the same club from which the Irons landed Sebastien Haller. In fact, Jovic and Haller enjoyed a fruitful spell together in Germany, a relationship which could perhaps be rekindled at London Stadium.
Things haven’t quite gone to plan at the Bernabeu for Jovic, however, the forward has just four goal contributions in his 31 appearances in Madrid.
Despite the lofty finances which are likely to be involved in any deal to bring the Serbian international to the Irons, ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham hold an interest in making the deal happen.

A seemingly farfetched deal seems to be getting more realistic with this news, and David Moyes would likely jump at the chance to bring in a forward who bagged 17 goals in the 2018/19 Bundesliga season. In the same campaign, Jovic netted 10 goals in the Europa League.
Zinedine Zidane has only used Jovic on four occasions this season, so the next transfer window is likely to be a major crossroads in the youngster’s career, particularly with Euro 2020 on the horizon.
Real Madrid are well versed in offloading their lesser-seen stars on loan, and that could well suit the Hammers at this stage. The squad’s need for additional striking reinforcements was never more so apparent than last weekend when Moyes’ men were without top scorer Michail Antonio.
