West Ham are believed to be on the verge of completing the signing of Danish centre-back Frederik Alves from Silkeborg IF.
According to Football Insider, the 20-year-old has begun his medical with the club as the finishing touches are put on a £1.4m transfer.
The giant defender has been in London for a number of days with his agent ahead of agreeing a deal which will see the Dane join West Ham at the start of the January transfer window.
Yesterday the move took major steps forward as the player’s current employers confirmed on their official website they had agreed a deal to sell their young defender, although they were tight-lipped on who the agreement was with.
Football Insider claimed that the Hammers are working on the final stages of the transfer, including contract matters as well as the medical.
Already a Denmark under-21 international, Alves has made 50 senior appearances for Silkeborg since making his debut in 2018.
Should the deal be completed without a hitch – Irons fans know all about hitches – David Moyes will have beaten off competition from Leeds United in the race for the youngster’s signature.

A relative unknown signing Alves may be, but beating a fellow Premier League club to a signing is always a positive barometer. For the price, there is little to no risk attached, and we all knew Moyes was desperate to freshen up his defensive options during the summer.
Whether the new man goes into the senior squad for the second half of the season will be the next indication as to the initial plans for the youngster. With Craig Dawson on loan until the end of the current campaign, there is scope to let the Dane settle into the Irons’ under-23 squad first.
