West Ham United have reportedly offered Jeremy Ngakia a one-year contract extension after his impressive displays for the first-team and many fans are confused by the decision.
West Ham insider ExWHUemployee revealed during The West Ham Way podcast (11/03/2020) that the Hammers have put a one-year offer on the table for the full-back.
The right-back has started four Premier League matches in succession (Transfermarkt) and some fans believe he deserves a much longer deal.
The 19-year-old has played well against some of the world’s best wingers, including Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Veteran full-back Pablo Zabaleta recently praised the teenager for his effort during matches and midfielder Declan Rice has also shown his appreciation to his teammate, feeling that he has settled in effortlessly into the senior squad.
He’s likely to keep his place in the starting XI for the remainder of the season but the club’s decision to only extend his stay by one year seems to be controversial.
Many West Ham fans on Twitter are confused by the decision and want to see him tied down for the foreseeable future.
