West Ham United’s interest in Inter Milan striker Gabriel Barbosa seems to be heating up if the latest reports are anything to go by.
‘Gabigol’ is coming off the back of a prolific season in front of goal on loan at Flamengo, scoring 34 goals in 43 matches in his homeland Brazil.
According to Football Insider, West Ham have ‘multiple agents’ working on finalising a deal for the 23-year-old striker this month.
The report adds that a loan-to-buy offer has actually been submitted to Inter, who are said to value Barbosa at £17million.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
This is a very interesting offer because it’s the same way West Ham acquired Manuel Lanzini from Al Jazira in 2016.
It presents a risk-free signing for David Moyes because he’ll be able to assess if Barbosa is up to the task in England.
The Brazilian frontman has already struggled in Europe with Inter and Benfica, scoring just two goals in 15 appearances in total.
Sebastien Haller is in need of a top-quality strike partner, with the underwhelming Albian Ajeti and the commonly injured Michail Antonio the only other options.
We believe this would be a really smart piece of business by West Ham and it’ll be very interesting to see how he does in the Premier League if the deal goes through.
