West Ham United’s pursuit of a midfielder is likely to be the club’s biggest saga of the January transfer window.
Declan Rice is the only established midfield name in David Moyes’ squad, with Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere’s stints at the club continuing to disappoint.
If recent reports are to be believed though, one name popular amongst some fans now seems to be out of the running.
According to Italian outlet Tuttosport, cited by Inside Futbol, Celta Vigo’s Stanislav Lobotka has rejected a move to West Ham after the club tabled a bid worth around €22million.
The Slovakia international has his heart set on Napoli, even though the Hammers are said to have offered more money than the Serie A side.

The chances of West Ham signing a new midfielder this month are very high, but who it maybe is anyone’s guess.
There seems to be a circus of names being thrown about at the moment, with Joe Allen, Sander Berge and Gedson Fernandes at the forefront.
If I was recruiting, I’d be focusing on more defensive-minded names because the Hammers are actually rather stacked in the more advanced midfield areas.
Rice needs quality alongside him if he’s to develop further as a player, rather than holding the midfield together by himself at such a young age.
