West Ham United have started their search for a midfielder in the January transfer window with Stoke City’s Joe Allen.
It’s currently an area of concern for David Moyes, with Declan Rice the only established defensive midfield option.
However, according to Football Insider, West Ham have actually submitted an offer for Allen and seen it rejected by the Championship side.
The report claims the offer was worth over £5million but it’s still short of Stoke’s valuation of the Wales international.
It’s said that the initial asking price was around £15million but has since been dropped to £8million in order to complete a deal.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Considering the small difference from West Ham’s initial offer to Allen’s valuation, it’s likely this deal will eventually go through if the interest is serious.
In my eyes, the 29-year-old would improve the Hammers’ quality in-depth but, realistically, wouldn’t help push the club to the next level.
Admittedly, January isn’t renowned for being the perfect time to secure your main targets, but you would’ve thought Moyes could aim a bit higher.
Allen is in his prime years though and it’ll only benefit Rice having an experienced name alongside him in the midfield.
