Yesterday, the chances of Manuel Pellegrini finally securing long-term target Mario Mandzukic looked to be over as he neared a move to Qatar club Al-Duhail.
However, a surprise twist in the transfer saga may have bolstered West Ham United’s chances of securing a major coup in January.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, the 33-year-old’s move has fallen through at the 11th hour due to a ‘difference in wages’.
The Mirror have previously claimed West Ham want to bring Mandzukic to the London Stadium on loan in the new year.
It could now be a serious possibility, with the Croatian forward destined to leave Juventus.

Wages may be a problem for Al-Duhail but considering they cleared over £700-a-week’s worth in the summer, it won’t be a problem for West Ham.
Sebastien Haller is crying out for support upfront and Mandzukic could provide just that with his quality and experience.
Yes, he’s nearing the end of his career, however, he’s shown for club and country he still has plenty left in the tank.
A long-term loan deal, potentially up to 18 months, could suit all parties best and it’s a very exciting prospect for not just West Ham fans, but fans of the Premier League in general.
