If West Ham United want to secure the signing of Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey in January, they may have to act fast.
The Magpies’ stand-in captain has been in inspired form this season, which has seen links with a move to East London reemerge.
Manuel Pellegrini highly rates Shelvey and was interested in his services in the summer before abolishing interest due to past injury fitness concerns.
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce is looking to tie the 27-year-old midfielder down to a long-term deal at St. James’ Park.
Shelvey scored in the 3-2 win against the Hammers at the London Stadium and has found the net five times in 13 Premier League games this season.

There’s no doubting whether Shelvey would add quality to West Ham’s midfield; of course, he would.
The Hammers are in need of solid competition for Declan Rice and he could be the man to provide just that.
With that being said though, January marks just 18 months left on his Newcastle contract so the club will want to offer him a new contract sooner rather than later.
Shelvey is supposedly a boyhood West Ham fan though and if the chance to join arises next month, it’d be interesting to see whether he takes it.
