One of the West Ham United’s problem areas this season has been at right-back, but the club are eyeing new personnel, including Southampton’s Cedric Soares.
Pablo Zabaleta simply seems to be counting down the days until his contract expires whilst Ryan Fredericks has convinced very few since his move from Fulham last summer.
According to club insider ExWHUEmployee, West Ham view Cedric as a possible replacement for Zabaleta and are looking into his availability.
The report claims he joins Norwich City’s Max Aarons and Newcastle United’s Javier Manquillo on the shortlist as the Hammers look to bolster their defensive options.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Cedric’s Southampton career has spiralled into decay and he’s not near the highly-rated right-back he once was.
After spending last season on loan at Inter Milan, he’s made nine Premier League appearances for the Saints this season but is no longer cemented as first-choice with Yan Valery breathing down his neck.
Is he an upgrade on Fredericks? I’m not sure. He offers little attacking threat and doesn’t match the Hammers man in terms of pace, so it wouldn’t be a move to get excited about.
Regardless, he would provide decent back-up if he acts as a replacement for Zabaleta. West Ham are in need of starting quality though.
