You’d argue centre-back is one of West Ham United’s stronger positions at the moment but there still looks to be room to strengthen.
Fabian Balbuena and Angelo Ogbonna currently occupy the two starting spots, with Issa Diop and Winston Reid providing cover.
According to club insider ExWHUEmployee though, West Ham are looking to bolster their options by signing Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Shane Duffy.
The 27-year-old has impressed in the Premier League, with his leadership and aerial presence often commended.
Duffy has notched 30 caps for the Republic of Ireland and is what many would describe as a seasoned professional.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Personnel-wise, the Hammers are stacked at centre-back but when you delve deeper it would make sense to bring in a defender in his prime.
Ogbonna and Reid are both into their 30s now and Balbuena is nearing that mark, so Duffy would come in a provide a sound option for the next few years.
Not to mention Reid’s undeniably a liability when it comes to keeping fit which should ultimately see him depart in the near future.
It’d be a good signing, but one must question whether there are other areas West Ham must prioritise first.
