Fabian Balbuena has reaffirmed his place as a West Ham United regular, starting the last four games ahead of Issa Diop.
He may not be around for much longer though, with recent reports suggesting one of Europe’s most successful clubs are hunting his signature in January.
According to Calciomercato, AC Milan are interested in Balbuena after meeting his agent Augusto Paraja.
The report claims a defender is a priority for Milan in the January transfer window and Balbuena is alongside Omar Alderete as top targets.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
The 28-year-old endured a difficult start to the season through injuries and poor form but has now replaced Diop as Angelo Ogbonna’s central defensive partner.
If the Hammers were to offload Balbuena, either in January or at the end of the season, you’d imagine Manuel Pellegrini would want to sign a replacement.
Diop and Winston Reid are the two first-team back-up options at the moment and with the latter as injury-prone as anyone, it’d be a hell of a risk.
On his day, Balbuena is a fantastic defender but West Ham could certainly upgrade and if the opportunity to cash in on him arises, I think it should be grasped.
