Arsenal and West Ham United look set to miss out on former Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez for the time being.
West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini seems to be on the brink but the Gunners are without a manager following the sacking of Unai Emery.
According to the Daily Mail, Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang will demand £20million to part ways with Benitez if they are approached.
It would be a world-record fee paid for a manager, but it’s likely to be enough to prevent both clubs pursuing their interest further.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Benitez is a brilliant manager and has enjoyed relevant success with pretty much every club he’s worked for.
However, in terms of value for money, there would probably be better options for West Ham if they do sack Pellegrini.
The Spaniard seems content in Asia at the moment, so it’s unlikely Dalian Yifang will budge on their valuation.
Winning at Chelsea would’ve certainly bought Pellegrini some time though and the Emirates Stadium is surely the much more realistic destination for Benitez.
It’s baffling just how expensive some managers are in the modern game though, but it should hopefully prevent impulse sackings around the board in future.
