Many would argue that West Ham United are in dire need of midfield reinforcements in the January transfer window, but the club could be looking to offload first.
According to the Daily Mail, cited by Sports Mole, West Ham are considering selling fringe midfielder Carlos Sanchez in January.
The 33-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and the report claims that loan offers will be listened to if they are appropriate.
Manuel Pellegrini sanctioned the £4million signing of Sanchez from Fiorentina last summer but he’s only played 40 minutes in the Premier League this season.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
It seems like he’s surplus to requirements at the London Stadium, but is arguably Declan Rice’s only natural back-up option in holding midfield so letting him leave presents a risk.
You’d imagine the Hammers will target the midfield as an area to improve in the near future and it’s clear Sanchez isn’t good enough.
Whether any club would want him is a whole other story, but it’s strange the see him linked with a loan move rather than a permanent switch.
With his deal expiring in the summer, West Ham are highly likely to make a loss but swapping him with a new face would surely be seen as an upgrade.
