It’s highly likely Aaron Long would be a West Ham United player if work permits didn’t exist, but now seems like that’s the thing that’ll end interest in his services.
According to Claret & Hugh, the Hammers are unlikely to restart their pursuit in January after failing to sign the 27-year-old in the summer.
Although the defender is said to be ‘desperate’ to move to the Premier League, it doesn’t look like the London Stadium will be his destination.
The report also claims that West Ham aren’t currently looking to strengthen at centre-back, with Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna, Fabian Balbuena and Winston Reid deemed strong options.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Diop and Ogbonna showed seriously promising signs as a defensive partnership before the latter was questionably dropped for an unknown reason.
With Reid seemingly on his last legs and Balbuena generally not good enough though, you’d imagine Pellegrini would want to strengthen.
It may not be a priority at the moment with other problems arising in the squad, but in my eyes, Diop needs a long-term partner.
The hype surrounding a potential move for Long has now pretty much dissolved and you’d have to agree that his arrival has next to no chance of happening.
