Exciting reports emerged on Wednesday that Michail Antonio was set to return from injury to face Tottenham Hotspur next weekend.
That still remains true, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be involved right from the off if latest reports are to be believed.
According to Claret & Hugh, the versatile 29-year-old forward is unlikely to start against Spurs at the London Stadium.
Antonio’s been out since August after damaging his hamstring in a 2-0 Carabao Cup win at Newport County but is nearing to end of his road to recovery.
READ WEST HAM’S VERDICT
It should come as no surprise considering the prolonged period of time he’s been sidelined through injury.
The report claims he’s training well but there’s an underlying fear that he may be rushed back too soon, which would make Manuel Pellegrini’s decision to put him on the bench even more understandable.
He’s a fantastic asset to be able to bring off the bench and provide that extra bit of attacking energy that could go a long way in securing West Ham a major result.
Lose, and Pellegrini’s side could find themselves in deep trouble with a challenging set of fixtures ahead.
Antonio’s return can only be seen as a huge boost though.
