You’d have thought being linked with a Premier League winner would have excited West Ham United fans, but many aren’t happy with recent links to Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic.
According to 90Min, the 31-year-old is eyeing a move away from Old Trafford in January due to a lack of game time and although Italy is believed to be his preference, West Ham are keeping tabs on the situation.
The Serbia international has missed Man United’s last seven games through injury, and plenty of Hammers fans are intent they don’t want him at the London Stadium…

Twitter: Excellent, they’ve worked hard to locate a midfielder actually slower than the ones we already have. Impressive. https://t.co/0hW9BmcdBk (@WestHamRambles)
Twitter: @WestHamRambles Yeah I mean it’s not as if we need a young hungry box to box midfielder when we can replace Sanchez… https://t.co/7eve1ir2pd (@WHUFCGeezer)
Twitter: @WestHamRambles If they replace Rice with Matic they can take my season ticket and stuff it up… (@h_mad_murdock)
Twitter: @IronsManJP @ExWHUemployee Maybe one of tbe only midfielders actually slower than what we have, couldn’t be further… https://t.co/NvPK5za4sX (@funkycoolers)
Twitter: @funkycoolers @ExWHUemployee I agree. Would be a catastrophic signing. The geezer hasn’t been decent since he left CFC 4 years ago! (@IronsManJP)
READ WEST HAM’S VERDICT
Matic was a phenomenal midfielder back in his prime days, but he now looks a shadow of the player Man United spent £40million on in 2017.
It shouldn’t be the direction West Ham are going in but, to be honest, if he’s there to provide back-up for Declan Rice and not act as a replacement, it could be alright.
His hefty contract could be a cause for concern, but he’d bring experience and knowhow to the dressing room and could actually teach Rice a thing or two.
