Previously linked to Celtic, Rosenborg defender Birger Meling has been the topic of substantial transfer interest for a prolonged period of time.
According to the Daily Mail, West Ham United have entered the fray and are now monitoring Meling ahead of a potential move.
The report claims the Hammers have joined a number of European clubs in pursuit of the highly-rated Roseborg left-back.
Meling has 10 caps for the Norway international team, but it’s his performances in this season’s Europa League that have primarily caught the eye.
The 24-year-old has just over a year remaining on his current Rosenborg deal, which may have clubs eyeing a free transfer further down the line.
READ WEST HAM’S VERDICT
The full-back position is certainly one of the areas Manuel Pellegrini must prioritise when next strengthening his squad.
Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku are nowhere near as convincing as they should be; the Hammers need a stand-out option.
Meling seems to be on the radar of an array of clubs across Europe, so this one may be worth keeping an eye on.
It’s likely West Ham will look to recruit in January, especially if the lacklustre current form continues.
It certainly seems like Melling could be on the move sooner or later though.
