Former West Ham United defender Danny Gabbidon has praised the capture of Albian Ajeti, although it’s gone under the radar following Sebastien Haller’s arrival.
Ajeti joined for £8million on deadline day but is currently acting as back-up to Haller, who West Ham paid Eintracht Frankfurt £40million for.
The Switzerland international made his debut at Newport County on Tuesday and despite not setting the world alight, he was lauded by Gabbidon on commentary, as cited by Hammers News:
Hopefully [he’ll provide] goals. I think the transfer has gone under the radar with Sebastien Haller coming in for big money, but he certainly looks a different type of striker to Haller. He’s more Javier Hernandez-like, a box type of player, likes to get in behind, can shoot with either foot, very composed when he gets in those positions, so I think he’ll be a very good addition.

With Ajeti already drawing comparisons to Hernandez, it’s easily believable that the 22-year-old can fulfil the same role his counterpart has his whole career.
He has the true makings of a super-sub and, whilst Manuel Pellegrini continues to use a sole striker system, that’s likely all he’ll be.
Haller is the more established star, of course, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him seal a big move elsewhere in the future.
If Ajeti can continue to build his reputation until that moment and take his chance as a regular starter, he could very well be a fine acquisition.
