Striker departures have been a common occurrence for West Ham United over the last year, with Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez and Jahmal Hector-Ingram all leaving.
Javier Hernandez has been widely speculated to be the next to pursue a new challenge and he’ll be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club in January.
There have been plenty of suitors, most notably in the United States, but the latest interest comes from childhood club Chivas.
Club president Amaury Vergara revealed his interest in Chicharito returning to the club earlier this week, and now manager Tomas Boy has joined in on the conversation.
AS Mexico have reported him saying, as cited by Sport Witness:
It would be great. Sure [I’m interested in signing him]. He fits, of course, good players fit in my team, and ‘Chicharito’ is a fabulous scorer. Of course, I would have liked him to choose a better team in order to perform better, but he is a fabulous player. I would love for him to come. Amaury [Vergara] is thinking of making Chivas a great team, he told me.
READ WEST HAM’S VERDICT
As heart-warming as it would be to see Hernandez return home, at 31 years old you feel he has one last contract in him at the highest level.
The way he took his goal at Brighton & Hove Albion proves he’s still got what it takes to provide them in the Premier League, so it’d be a shame to see him leave for Mexico.
Although he may be third in Manuel Pellegrini’s pecking order after the arrivals of Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti, he still offers plenty to the squad.
With his contract out next summer though, it’s unlikely West Ham will offer him an extension and a free transfer away from the London Stadium seems likely.
