Fenerbache are eyeing a move for Angelo Ogbonna in the final two weeks of the European transfer window, but would West Ham United be wise to let him leave with the season already underway?
According to reports, as cited by Claret & Hugh, the Turkish giants see Ogbonna as a replacement for the recently-departed Martin Skrtel and are looking into a possible loan-to-buy deal.
The 31-year-old is now one of five first-team centre-backs at the London Stadium, following the summer arrival of Goncalo Cardoso, but questions will be asked whether Manuel Pellegrini let him depart.
READ WEST HAM’S VERDICT
He’s has come under vast criticism after being named captain at Brighton on Saturday, not convincing many with his performance alongside Issa Diop and then, to top things off, failing to thank to travelling support after full-time.
The fact that the deal would likely be an initial loan makes it less likely to happen in my eyes, and with Winston Reid still struggling with fitness, it’d be a huge risk.
The weekend’s antics aside, Ogbonna is still third-choice centre-half at West Ham and to lose him without bringing in an established replacement… I can’t see it happening.
