The news breaking this morning is that Adrian looks set to transition from a free agent to the first-team goalkeeper for the European champions.
According to The Times’ Paul Joyce, the 32-year-old is set to replace Simon Mignolet as Liverpool back-up stopper following the Belgian’s £6.4million move to Club Bruges.
Adrian departed the Hammers this summer on a free transfer – ending a six-year spell at the club – due to a lack of game time, so supporters have reacted in an understandably confused manner to his decision.
Twitter: @COYIrons_com Surely he is not gonna go to Liverpool to be a back up keeper?? Thought that was why he left us because of lack of game time?? (@SuperSteve46)
Twitter: @COYIrons_com He wanted to leave for first team football. We should get him back if that’s no longer an issue (@dean_deano88)
Read West Ham verdict
As brutal as it may sound, sitting on the bench for Liverpool whilst they are challenging for top honours domestically and in Europe is a much more enticing prospect than West Ham.
The Reds recorded a record total of Premier League points last term and, of course, clinched the most valuable trophy in club football. After making just five of his 150 Hammers appearances last season due to the form of Lukasz Fabianski, he was right to move onto pastures new.
This presents a great bit of business by Jurgen Klopp – selling Mignolet for almost £7million and signing a ‘keeper of similar quality as a replacement – and expect the Spaniard to receive a fine ovation upon his return to the London Stadium.
