West Ham have announced the signing of goalkeeper David Martin, son of Hammers legend Alvin Martin, according to the Evening Standard.
Martin had been at Championship club Millwall since September 2017 and with his contract expiring at the end of this month, the 33-year-old has decided not to renew it and has instead signed for the Hammers on a two-year contract.
Martin grew up around West Ham with his dad Alvin playing for the club week in week out. Martin was delighted with the signing and even though he’s the third-choice goalkeeper he is determined to show his worth:
Signing for West Ham is a dream, both for me and my family. I loved watching my dad play, and I have continued coming to games throughout my career.
He then went on to say that he will compete with Hammers’ other two goalkeepers, Lukasz Fabianski and Roberto, for a spot in the starting 11.
Bosses at West Ham believe Martin is the perfect signing for the side. The team have heard positive things from their goalkeeping coach who has trained with him when they were both at Liverpool, and after seeing him perform in the Championship last season they have no doubt he’ll do well.
