Hammers eye deadly striking duo of Maxi Gomez and Mitrovic

West Ham look set to rekindle their interest in long-time target Maxi Gomez this summer, that is according to the London Evening Standard.

The Celta Vigo forward is thought to be one of two strikers that manager Manuel Pellegrini is looking to sign, with Fulham star Aleksandar Mitrovic also on his wish list.

Gomez, 22, won’t come cheap, but the £43.5m release clause hasn’t appeared to have deterred West Ham, who are amongst a number of European teams with a keen interest in the Uruguayan.

Gomez is likely to feature for his national side in this summer’s Copa America tournament, potentially complicating any future deal.

The Celta man was identified as a potential replacement for the seemingly China-bound Marko Arnautovic in January, but with the Austrian staying put, plans to make a move for Gomez were temporarily shelved.

The club have been keeping tabs on Gomez throughout the season, monitoring the striker’s impressive campaign, as he contributed 14 goals for the struggling side La Liga side.

His price could yet be halved to £22m should Celta Vigo be relegated this season but with the club three points clear of the drop zone, that remains unlikely with just one game to go.

Another man reportedly catching the eye of Pellegrini is Mitrovic, who has had a similarly productive campaign for Championship-bound Fulham.

The Serbian international’s 11 Premier League goals were a rare highlight for the Cottagers, but he is now expected to move on, with the Hammers, as well as Crystal Palace, monitoring his situation.
