Robert Snodgrass has revealed why he stayed at West Ham instead of returning to Aston Villa.
The midfielder had a great season with Villa in the Championship last season, after failing to make an impact at West Ham after moving from Hull City.
The Scot has made a big impact at the Hammers this season and has put himself firmly in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans.
Robert Snodgrass said, via Football London:
I went away to Villa to keep playing, but I always kept an eye on the results and spoke to the lads, wishing them good luck through those tough times last year.
I am friends with these people. I wanted to come back and try and prove myself to the manager.
I want to be here, work hard for the cause and try to help the lads go forward and kick on to the top part of the table. That’s why I came here.
Snodgrass was linked with a permanent switch to Villa after their defeat in the play-off final, however, the midfielder wanted to prove his worth to the Hammers.

The former Norwich and Hull man also talked about how the Hammers plan to bounce back this weekend after losing to Tottenham last week 1-0.
The Scot said that the fans will see results if the Hammers continue to work hard on the pitch.
They want to see players giving every ounce for that badge and that is what we did on Saturday.
The manager has been about for a long time and he knows the game inside out. After the game he said, ‘listen get your heads up because that’s the level I want’. That’s the hard work and dedication you need and on another day we could have won that game.
