West Ham were well beaten on their first outing of the new Premier League season as Liverpool defeated them 4-0 at Anfield.
The Hammers made the trip to Merseyside knowing that they were the underdogs heading into the fixture, and the Reds were certainly dominant as they put Manuel Pellegrini’s side to the sword.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring just before the 20-minute mark and Liverpool headed into the interval two goals to the good, as Sadio Mane scored just before the half-time whistle blew.
Things went from bad to worse for West Ham in the second-half as Mane scored his second of the afternoon after 53 minutes.
Daniel Sturridge, who made his Anfield return from the substitutes bench, added insult to injury just two minutes from time as he found the net to cap an impressive 4-0 win for the hosts.
