West Ham have been searching for a holding midfielder for some time. Last summer, they were chasing Portugal international William Carvalho but they couldn’t agree on a deal and that meant the Hammers reluctantly admitted defeat in their pursuit for him.
Stoke have been forced to put their hands in their pockets to convince the Welshman to stay with the club in the Championship as they set their sights on an immediate return.
