With Slaven Bilic’s future hanging by a threat, you would’ve thought his players would go out there and put a performance in which demonstrated that they’re still fighting for him.
A shoddy first-half was sparked into life when Liverpool countered from a West Ham corner and Sadio Mane was able to lay in Mohamed Salah who slotted past Joe Hart.
Less than three minutes later, the Reds were at it again when Joel Matip reacted fastest from a Liverpool corner that deflected off Mark Noble and could only be parried back into the mix by Joe Hart.
West Ham began to rectify what was a pretty dismal first-half performance when Manuel Lanzini’s cultured finish cut the deficit to one 10 minutes into the second period but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain restored Liverpool’s two-goal lead less than a minute later when he tucked the ball away from close range after Hart kept out his first effort.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were in cruise control from there on out and completed the scoring late on when Mane and Salah linked up again, culminating with the Egyptian firing a low effort into the far corner.
Only time will tell whether this was Bilic’s last game in charge of West Ham, but it would be a shame for it to end in such fashion, but it encapsulates everything we’ve seen from the last 18 months.
