Player Ratings: West Ham 1-2 Chelsea

We knew coming into this game that it was going to be tough going up against the Premier League leaders.

What you must do is not gift them opportunities to score, which we did.

After starting the first half really brightly, a high press was employed and West Ham looked dangerous when the delivery was decent, but a lapse in concentration allowed Chelsea to take the lead.

With the box loaded with targets, West Ham dithered on the ball and were picked off by N’Golo Kante and less than 15 seconds later Eden Hazard put the ball in the back of the net.

The second half started poorly for the home side when Andy Carroll and Pedro Obiang got in a mix up from a corner and the cross flicks off the latter’s head, deflects off Diego Costa and into the net. Deflating.

West Ham battled hard in the second half but lacked any sort of dynamic presence or creativity in the final third and failed to carve out any genuine chances to close the gap until Manuel Lanzini grabbed a consolation deep into injury time.

The Hammers stay 11th and here are our player ratings from the game.
