A study carried out by Football-Observatory.com has revealed the percentage of minutes played by English players for each Premier League team, since the start of the season.
Each club has been ranked accordingly in a table and the results will not be too pleasing for West Ham fans who like to see English players in the team, especially due to the Hammers’ rich history of producing home-grown talents.
West Ham are ranked 16th in the list, with 24% of domestic minutes played by Englishmen. Bournemouth top the list, whilst Watford lie bottom in 20th place.
Sam Byram, Mark Noble, Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll have all featured in the Premier League this season. Michail is the only West Ham player to have received a call up to the England national team this season, however, he is yet to play a part in the Three Lions’ World Cup Qualification Campaign.
A notable absence from the group of English players to have played under Slaven in the Premier League this season is left-back Aaron Cresswell.
During last season’s league campaign, Cresswell was one of the first names on the West Ham team sheet and would have given the Hammerrs us a more impressive percentage if he had not picked up a pre-season injury.
English youngsters Reece Burke, Reece Oxford and Sam Howes are all future prospects who will be hoping to break into the first team in the coming seasons, and improve West Ham’s standing; in both the Premier League and the future survey results.
