West Ham join race for Andre-Pierre Gignac

West Ham United have entered the race for Tigres striker Andre-Pierre Gignac according to Mexican media source Esto.

The striker has been heavily linked with a move back to Europe after reaching the European Championship final with France, but with a little under three weeks of the transfer window left he is still on the books of the Liga MX club.

The Hammers have been chasing strikers all summer, and have recently signed two in the form of Andre Ayew – who Slaven Bilic has confirmed will be used as an out-and-out forward – and Deportivo Maldonado’s Jonathan Calleri. However, they are still chasing more as the season draws nearer, and reportedly want to partner Gignac with Ayew in attack.

Gignac moved to Monterrey to join Tigres in the summer of 2015 despite scoring 21 in 38 for Marseille in Ligue 1 the previous year, and he has continued his goalscoring exploits in Mexico; last season he scored 28 league goals in just 39 games, and he is continued in the same vein this year, scoring two in three already this season. His form in the league has seemingly convinced The Hammers to come in for him, although he has been linked with moves all summer, including to Luis Enrique’s Barcelona.

Allegedly, the club want to repair the partnership between Ayew and Gignac, which was in place for two years at Marseille. Ayew cost a hefty £20.5 million from Swansea, and given how well he is doing in the country Tigres aren’t likely to let go of their prized asset that easily.
