Over 52,000 West Ham fans crammed into the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon to watch West Ham take on Juventus in second annual Betway Cup fixture.
Considered the ‘official’ opening ceremony for West Ham’s new home, christening the Bobby Moore and Sir Trevor Brooking stands in the process, it was a brilliant spectacle to witness.
The Hammers succumbed to a 3-2 defeat to the Serie A champions but put on a solid display before the start of their new season.
Paulo Dybala gave Juventus the lead early in the second half, with Mario Mandzukic doubling the lead shortly after.
Andy Carroll pulled one back before half time, poking home from close range after his towering header was half-stopped by Gianluigi Buffon.
The big man brought the Hammers onto level terms early in the second half with a stunning header and the game looked set to go to penalties before Simone Zaza tucked away the winner seven minutes from time.
